BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Three American relief workers were killed and two were wounded in a drive-by shooting Monday in the northern city of Mosul, the U.S. military said. Hospital officials said two of the dead were women.
The five were traveling in one car on the eastern side of the city when they were attacked, Lt. Col. Joseph Piek, a spokesman for American forces in Mosul, said in an e-mail.
An off-duty Iraqi policeman found the car shortly after the late afternoon shooting, and took the wounded to an Iraqi hospital. U.S. Army air medevac helicopters later transported them to a combat support hospital in Mosul."

TIKRIT, Iraq (AP) - A roadside bomb killed two American soldiers and wounded three Saturday, the first casualties suffered by an Army regiment taking over security in Saddam Hussein's hometown as part of a giant troop rotation in Iraq.
The bomb destroyed the troops' armored Humvee as they patrolled through downtown Tikrit at around 5 a.m., hours before the outgoing 4th Infantry Division's 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment handed over security duties in the area from to the 18th Infantry Regiment at a ceremony on Saturday.
In the attack, gunmen opened fire on the rear vehicle in the three-Humvee patrol, then the bomb went off by the second Humvee, said one of the soldiers at the scene."

Seven British soldiers were wounded and three Iraqis killed after a patrol south of Basra came under fire from insurgents armed with handguns and rocket-propelled grenades.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in Qalah Salih, about 40km (25 miles) south of Amarah, after residents gathered around coalition troops as they arrested a man. The 1st Battalion, Light Infantry, came under small-arms fire. When heavier fire from machine guns and a rocket-propelled grenade came in, the British soldiers returned fire."

On Wednesday, a bomb exploded in another telephone exchange in Baghdad, sparking fears that guerrillas were targeting Iraq's communications system in a new form of sabotage. The country's energy infrastructure has frequently been attacked.
Police at the scene of Thursday's attack said the rocket had skidded along the ground after the initial impact, hitting a car and killing its occupants. A large crowd of Iraqis stood around the mangled remains of the car.

Wednesday he had put the number of dead at 271, which officials later said was due to confusion over the toll.
